Hearing God

Matthew 4:4 (Berean Standard Bible) – But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”

The past few weeks have been a busy time for me. In the midst of the busyness I did not spend time with God as much as I would have liked to. During this time, I kept seeing bunnies around my home, neighborhood and in other places. One day, my husband and I were in the yard with one of our granddaughters. While she was playing in the yard, a bunny came near to where we were. My husband pointed the bunny out to our granddaughter. I marveled that the bunny was not afraid to get near us, but soon ran away. Over time, I continued to see bunnies. It did not dawn on me to ask if the Lord was wanting to say something to me about this, until a few weeks later.

I asked the Lord was He wanting to say something to me about the bunny. I tried searching the Scriptures about bunnies/rabbits. I then searched the Bible App to see if there was a devotional on rabbits. I found one that was called Big Ears Are Beautiful by Gregg Matte.

Then I realized what it was about the bunny that God wanted to show me…the ears. A bunny has large ears to hear keenly and distinctly to be able to go in the right direction and to move swiftly. So it is with us, we need to hear God’s voice keenly and distinctly to go in the right direction and to move swiftly when God instructs us to. Just like the bunny uses its ears to hear danger and move accordingly. We need to be able to hear God’s voice in every season and situation of our lives. We need to hear His voice and move when he says to move. We need to hear His voice when He says to do or not to do something.

For me, I realized that God was showing me the importance of taking time to hear Him speak to me and to spend time with Him.

I saw another bunny yesterday running in our yard. When I saw this, I said to the Lord, “Lord I am listening”.

This morning, I saw another bunny sitting in our yard on the side of our house looking up to the sky as if it was looking up and listening. What a picture for me to remember that it is important to listen to hear God speak. It is important to not let the busyness of life become more of a priority than spending time with Him. It is important to listen and do what He says. His words are life to us. He is our very life.
