Relationships

I woke up this morning to a song that my daughter Faith shared with me called Sparrows by Cory Asbury. It is a beautiful song about how God takes good care of us and how we are carried in God’s love regardless of what the future brings. It also expresses how we do not have to worry because God takes care of us.

I did not realize at the time that God was going to use this song in a deeper way. As I took our dogs for a walk this morning, I realized that God was speaking to me again with birds. I kept seeing two birds together. God kept highlighting them to me as I walked. I would see different types of birds two at a time. I saw two geese flying together, two geese sitting on top of a house, two sparrows in a tree, and two robins flying. It happened so many times that I realized that I should ask the Lord if He wanted to say something to me about this.

The significance of the two birds demonstrated relationship. Our relationships are important. When I think of relationships, the first relationship that I think of is my relationship with the Lord.

John 15:15 (BSB) “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not understand what the master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything I have learned from My Father I have made known to you.

Jesus has called me His friend. As I draw near to the Lord, I learn and grow in Him. He reveals Himself more and more to me.

Other relationships that I think of are between a husband and wife, between a parent and a child, between siblings, between a grandparent and a grandchild, and between friends. Each relationship is important and has a purpose in our lives.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (BSB) “Therefore encourage and build one another up, just as you are already doing”

Galatians 6:2 (BSB) “Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ”

Remembering that God has a purpose in each relationship of our lives, we can learn from one another. We can encourage one another and help to build each other up. We can also carry each other’s burdens and pray for one another.

I am grateful for the relationships that I have in my life, my husband, my children, my grandchildren, my mother, my mother-in-law, my siblings, my siblings-in-law, my extended family, and my friends. Each person God has used in my life to help me to be better and to grow in my walk with the Lord.

Considering this, I want to thank God for each of you. I do not take lightly that you are in my life. I am truly grateful to each of you. I hope that in some way God will illuminate to you the relationships that you have in your life and the special purpose that He has in each of them. May we all learn and glean what He is saying through the relationships that we have.

May God bless you today.
