A Teachable Moment

This past week was challenging for me. I had been praying to the Lord for strength and encouragement. He answered my prayer.

I did not realize how he would bring encouragement to me, but it happened at an unexpected time as I was spending time with my granddaughters.

At the kitchen counter, I have a small box of bible cards that have bible verses on it. My granddaughter, Livvy, likes to take the cards out and play with them. This time when she took them out of the box, she asked me, “what does this say, Grammy?” I read the card.

Matthew 7:7 (Berean Standard Bible) “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find, knock, and the door will be opened to you.”

After reading the card, she gave me another card and asked “what does it say, Grammy?”

Matthew 11:28-29 (BSB) “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

She gave me another card and asked the same question a few more times.

Hebrews 13:5b (BSB) “never will I leave you never will I forsake you.”

Psalm 91:14-15 (BSB) “because he loves Me, I will deliver him; because he knows My name, I will protect him. When he calls out to Me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him.

At the time, it seemed that she was giving me one card after another quickly but I realized later that God was using my granddaughter to change my perspective. He was bringing encouragement with His Word. He used her to remind me of His word and His promises. I was weary from the challenges of the week and He reminded me that He is with me and never leaves me. He reminded me of his protection, deliverance and rest. He blessed me through my granddaughter.

I am grateful for the teachable moment that God gave to me. He caused me to stop, read and receive His word through the actions of a little child. He helped me to recognize how He can speak in so many different ways.

My prayer for you and me is – Lord help us to hear you when you speak and not miss your teachable moments. Help us to receive what you are saying and embrace your Word for each day.
