Job 12:7-10 (Berean Standard Bible) “But ask the animals, and they will instruct you; ask the birds of the air, and they will tell you. Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? The life of every living thing is in His hand, as well as the breath of all mankind.”
This morning as I was spending time with God I heard a bird singing. I looked to see where it was coming from. To my amazement, it was coming from a bird feeder attached to my patio door. The bird feeder had been covered with snow but this morning the snow had melted. The bird was eating the birdseed in the bird feeder. It looked so happy to have the food and continued to sing. Eventually it flew away and two more came back with it. The two that came with it did not stay. They ate a little and flew away but this one remained. As I watched this occur, I asked the Lord what He was wanting to say to me about this.
Luke 12:14 (BSB) “Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storehouse or barn; yet God feeds them. How much more valuable you are than the birds!
Matthew 6:26 (BSB) “Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns – and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”
The Lord provided for these birds. He enabled them to find the food in the bird feeder in the midst of so much snow. He fed them. In the same way, He takes care of His children. He takes care of you and me.
The single bird that remained is a reminder to stay and eat, to feast, to not rush away but to enjoy the provision that has been provided, to feast on God’s goodness. The bird ate until it was full and sang at different times. Not only do I need to enjoy His provision but I need to continually thank Him for His provision and not take it for granted.
In the Bible, the seed is also compared to God’s word. In the parable of the sower (Mark 4:1-20), a farmer sows seed that fell in different places. Some seed fell along the path, on rocky ground, among thorns, and in good soil. The seed that fell along the path, on rocky ground and among thorns did not survive. The seed that fell on the good soil grew and produced a crop.
Jesus explained the meaning of the parable to the disciples. Mark 4:14-20 (BSB) “The farmer sows the word. Some are like the seeds along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. Some are like the seeds sown on rocky ground. They hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But they themselves have no root, and they remain for only a season. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. Others are like the seeds sown among thorns. They hear the word, but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. Still others are like the seeds sown on good soil. They hear the word, receive it, and produce a crop – thirtyfold, sixtyfold, or a hundredfold.”
It is important to spend time with God reading His Word, praying and praising Him for who He is and for all He has done. As we feed on the word of God (seed), let us allow God to speak to our hearts and yield to what He is saying. Let us stay in His presence, and not rush away but allow Him to feed us with all that we need for each day. Let us feast on His word and let Him fill us to be satisfied. He is everything that we need.
As you go about your week, try to recognize His provision in your life and to continually thank Him for it. As you spend time with God, let Him fill you with everything you need each day through His Word and let Him speak to you in prayer. Allow Him to lead and guide you into all truth, in every decision that you make, and in every interaction that you have and to live a life surrendered to Him.
